Please check our Schedule frequently for current classes CPR Saves Lives! The Holliston Fire Department offers training for the members of the community in CPR, First Aid, and Fire Safety. We teach classes at no cost to the public with the exception of materials and certification card fees when required. The classes are taught by the experienced members of the Holliston Fire Department ensuring that "real-life" situations are taught and addressed. There are several standard classes available and special courses can be tailored to meet specific requirements of the audience such as babysitters, lifeguards, or day care providers. We offer a variety of Standard classes, ranging from CPR for the layperson (non-healthcare provider), to CPR for HealthCare Providers in addition to First Aid and Emergency Response Training. Below is a breakdown of the types of classes/certifications we offer, see the Certification Level page for more details on our standard programs. All of our CPR and First Aid Classes follow American Heart Association (AHA) and National Safety Council standards.
CPR AHA Infant/Child Adult AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) CPR The AHA Infant/Child Adult AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) CPR course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until arrival of emergency medical personnel arrive. We follow the latest protocols, use cutting edge DVD videos, and practice with 12 brand-new mannequins. CPR is a skill that requires practice and comfort. Our instructors will insure each and every student is comfortable with the skills they learn, feeling confident knowing they now have the skills to save a life. Choking (Heimlich Maneuver) and rescue breathing are also covered. This class requires hands-on practice with adult, child, and infant-size mannequins. This is a one-day class lasting approx. 3-4 hours and is taught at the HeartSaver level. There are no pre-requisites to take this class. AHA Healthcare Provider The Healthcare Provider course is designed to meet the needs of healthcare professionals who respond to cardiac and pulmonary emergencies in hospital and out-of-hospital environments.
First-Aid The AAOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) First Aid course includes essential information and training in the first aid skills recommended by safety professionals in a format that can be delivered in a single 3-4 hour class. While the training includes the core components of recognition and treatment of seizures, bleeding and shock, wounds, burns, head and spine injuries, joint and muscle injuries, sudden illnesses (fainting, diabetic emergencies), poisoning, cold and heat related emergencies – it is also modular to meet the needs of specific workplace or group. Focus is on recognition, scene safety and control, contacting emergency resources and providing First-Aid prior to the arrival of emergency resources. It is recommended to take CPR prior to this class.
